The Department of Sport and Leisure (SEL) was present, this Tuesday (5th), in the act of signing the agreement term of the Organizing Committee of the Deaflympics Caxias 2021 and SESI, in Caxias do Sul. Representing the holder of the portfolio, Danrlei de Deus, SEL Technical Advisory Coordinator, Carla Pretto, participated in the ceremony. The agreement between the parties provides for the use of the facilities at Sesi's local headquarters to hold the 2021 Deaflympics, which will take place in the city, from May 1st to May 15th, 2022.

SEL is an institutional partnership for the realization of the 2021 Deaflympics. The multi-sport event is organized by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). The competition, which is in its 24th edition, takes place every 4 years and is considered the oldest after the Olympic Games.

Its first edition took place in Paris, in 1924, and was the first sporting event for people with special needs. In this edition, 4,500 deaf athletes and teams from over 100 countries are expected to participate. As a historic landmark, Brazil will be the first country in Latin America to host the Summer Deaflympic Games.

Also present at the ceremony were the Secretary of Sports and Leisure of Caxias do Sul, Gabriel Citton; the president of ICSD, Gustavo Perazzolo; Organizing Committee CEO Richard Ewald; the director of Sesi Caxias do Sul, Siandra Gediel; the superintendent of Sesi in RS, Juliano Colombo and technical managers of the municipality and Sesi.
