In Memory of Miriam Opondo: Advancing Equality in Deaf Sports Across Africa
It is with great sadness that we hear of Miriam Opondo’s passing. We have lost a strong leader in the Deaf sports community, whose bravery and leadership promoted equality. She was truly an inspiration, always striving to empower Deaf women into leadership roles in Deaf sports across Africa.
Miriam served as the Vice President of the Confederation of African Deaf Sports (CADS) and played a vital role in advocating for the growth and inclusion of Deaf sports in Africa. She was also a representative of the ICSD Women in Deaf Sports Commission, where she contributed her knowledge, shared her experiences, and pursued her dream of seeing more Deaf women in leadership roles across Africa.
Let us honor and continue her dream. Our heartfelt condolences to her family. We will remember and honor her bravery, her leadership, and her contributions, including her role in the ICSD Women in Sports Commission. Thank you, Miriam, for everything you taught us and for sharing your knowledge with the ICSD Women in Sports Commission.
