Badminton

The 2nd World Deaf Badminton Championship will be held in Muelheim / Ruhr, Germany from 28 September to 7 October 2007. The venue in Muelheim / Ruhr is excellent.  It is considered as one of the best Sport Hall in Germany, since it is the same venue where the German "Yonex" Open is taking place in February 2007 where the World's best players (hearing) are playing. Also the site is next to the famous Rhine River and very close to amenities.

I am very pleased to say that I have received so many preliminary forms. Up to date of 16th December, 20 countries have shown their interest and there will be team event for the first time with 14 teams! This is excellent and has shown that Badminton is growing as the standard of many players are exceptionally high. Some of them are representing their own countries at some hearing international competitions!

Sometime late in January, another final entry form will be sent out to those countries and after that we will be starting working to prepare the tournament.

We have an official website for this event.  Please click on it for any updates and other useful information on www.badminton-wc.dg-sv.de

I wish you all a Very Happy New Year and may the 16th Winter Deaflympics in Salt Lake City be a success.
