A Month after the 2017 Deaflympics

A month has passed since the conclusion of the 23rd Summer Deaflympics in Samsun, Turkey. We all went home with many wonderful memories! More than 3 thousand athletes from 97 countries competed at the 23rdSummer Deaflympics.

Eighty-six (86) records were broken, 54 being world records and 32 being Deaflympics records. The sport most records were broken was swimming, 26, 15 records in shooting and 13 in athletics.

At the closing ceremony, Deaflympics Samsun 2017 General Coordinator Mr. Serkan Baltacı handed the ICSD flag to Turkey Deaf Sports Federation President Mr. Yakup Ümit Kihtir, who in turn handed it over to ICSD President Dr. Valery Rukhledev.

The probability of the ICSD announcing the locations for both the 2019 and 2021 Deaflympics later this year is critical to gaining momentum after the Closing Ceremony in Samsun. A final proposal on awarding the 2019 and 2021 Deaflympics this year will be presented to the full ICSD Executive Board in Lausanne in the beginning of November 2017.
