WADA publishes 2022 Prohibited List

The List is one of the eight International Standards that are mandatory for all Signatories of the World Anti-Doping Code (Code). It designates what substances and methods are prohibited both in- and out-of-competition and which substances are banned in particular sports.

New from 2022: Changes to the Prohibited List
The 2022 Prohibited List enters into force on 1 January 2022 and replaces all previous lists.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has made several modifications to the Prohibited List 2022 which have an impact on the prohibited status of various medications. These modifications include:

Glucocorticoids
From 1 January 2022, more stringent regulations will be introduced for glucocorticoids. In addition to oral and rectal administration, injections of all kind will also be prohibited in competition. Intravenous and intramuscular injections are already prohibited but from 1 January 2022, the intra-articular injection of glucocorticoids, for example, will also be banned.

Salbutamol
As of January 1, 2022, a lower threshold dose and adjusted time intervals for salbutamol inhalation will apply. The maximum permitted dose for inhalation is now 600 micrograms of salbutamol within 8 hours in divided doses. As previously, the dose must not exceed 1600 micrograms in 24 hours.

The 2022 Prohibited List and the 2022 Summary of Modifications and Explanatory Notes are available for download on ICSD’s and WADA’s websites to follow in the coming weeks.
